Viola moved to the US in 2020 in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic. In Russia, they participated in the opposition movement in Moscow, organized protests for LGBT rights, were involved in the feminist movement, and used to be a volunteer for a non-governmental organization rescuing victims of all kinds of modern slavery.
In the fall of 2019, Viola helped rescue an elderly woman from a labor beggarly slavery, where the woman had spent over 6 years. This case received wide coverage in the Russian media and led to an investigation to identify the "beggar's mafia" throughout Moscow. In January 2021, Viola was one of the organizers of a protest in New York against the detention of Putin's critic Alexei Navalny at Moscow's Sheremetyevo airport. About 500 people have attended the protest.
In RUSA LGBT Viola helps newly arrived immigrants get involved in the community and adapt to life in the United States.
