April 3rd, 2018, Tompkins Square Library will host Lyosha Gorshkov, Co-President of RUSA LGBT, “whose life story is featured in the new Masha Gessen’s book “The Future is History: How Totalitarianism Reclaimed Russia,“ which recently has won the National Book Award.”
Lyosha will share his personal journey as a “strange” kid growing within the Perestroika and discovering his sexuality during the “liberal honeymoon” in 1990s, and later – as a queer professor, and scholar living through the political turmoil of 2000s, and anti-LGBTIQ “scare” / witch-hunting in his last years in Russia.
